Child Rights Centre – Serbia
Facing the COVID-19 pandemic, with its tremendous effects on the life of parents and children, particularly vulnerable ones, it was of immense importance to provide the necessary support to them to go through this crisis without detrimental consequences.
The members of DX Club were very proactive and initiative-oriented as they wanted to help children in need. Therefore, and with an aim to reduce stress and anxiety and support different forms of learning, they have prepared a comic Coronavirus Story for Children, and an accompanying video that helps children tackle misinformation and understand the coronavirus effects. Also, the story and video are supported by an illustration serving as a useful communication tool for parents and children. In order to reach out to all children, the video has been translated into sign language.
The prepared material has helped children understand the coronavirus, and all the challenges it brings to their world but also instilled them with practical advice on how to best protect themselves.
These are some of children’s and parents’ views on the prepared material:
“Imagine being scared with all the images presented on TV without the ability to understand what is being said as information presented…? This comic helped me understand what is happening and how I can protect myself” – M. N., a child with hearing impairment.
“The comic and video were very useful for our children, since they provide all the necessary information about coronavirus, in a way that children could easily understand” – said a parent.
